Sarahi came by a few weeks ago for a maternity session with me.

You know, I always hear people say that pregnant women “glow” and I can’t say I had ever noticed it before, but Sarahi definitely was glowing!

The baby (whose name is Caitlyn as of that weekend) is due in March and I am personally SUPER excited! Why? you ask…

Because Sarahi is my cousin! Which means I will get to love on that baby girl all I want!

I try to keep my SQUEEEEE-ing to purely professional levels when I am working with strangers (mostly because I don’t want to scare them), but when it’s family all bets are off.

So, be prepared Sarahi! I may not ever give her back!

A few weeks ago I went out to dinner with some friends downtown. Here I am ruining a perfectly good night by dragging said friends around the Walt Disney Concert Hall at night and taking silly pictures.
Remember how in love with this building I am?

Remember I told you any inquiries would probably result in me suggesting we shoot here?

You guys! I can’t be within six blocks of this place without wanting to go there! It’s a sickness.
What I love most about this building is that it’s never the same twice. Because the walls are made out of reflective metal the color of the building is always changing depending on the time of day and the weather. The night we were there it had this ethereal peach glow from the lights of the city reflecting off the low clouds. So beautiful.
Anyway, enough about my nerdy tendencies. Just wanted to share!

I met Whitton three summers ago when I took a trip to Israel. I remember the first moment I saw her she was quoting MacBeth in the airport.

We were two of only a handful of SoCal-ers and we were both theatre geeks, so we chatted over that.
We exchanged numbers at the end of the trip and, holy crap, am I ever glad we did because how stunning is she?!

Whitton is an actress in L.A. and booked a McDonald’s commercial this week! Look for her gorgeous face on a TV near you!

Thanks to Whitton for coming out to play with me!

Matt and Michelle got married the day after my birthday. Yes, this means I am sorely belated in this post. Please forgive me!
Matt and Michelle are a wonderfully sweet couple from the Ventura area. The first time I met Michelle she had that frazzled bride attitude, but she was so organized and knew exactly what she wanted! That is EXACTLY what I like in a bride! Working with Matt and Michelle has been basically a dream experience for me. They are so patient and so kind. And I’m sure once you see these pictures you’ll see that they are a perfect and loving couple.
Here are just a few highlights:
The lovely rings.

Ladies, let me just give a piece of advice from a photographer’s perspective. Nothing is going to make your photos pop quite as much as red will. I think it is quite possibly my favorite accent color for weddings.

Useless fact: It took me roughly three months to be able to say “adirondack” without hesitating. Not sure why my brain could not comprehend that word.

Matt and Michelle held their reception at sunset in Somis at this gorgeous country club on a hill. The view coupled with the setting sun was simply spectacular. I love, love, love the golden light at sunset.

Matt and Michelle had a lovely church ceremony in Ventura. Their ceremony was incredibly sweet and you could tell how much they are loved by their friends and family.

Michelle’s bridesmaids. These girls were so much fun!

The whole wedding party.

Again… LOVING the sunset!!!

Congratulations, Matt and Michelle. Thank you so much for letting me share this special day with you.

So, I have been ridiculously busy the last month. Between editing two weddings and the holidays and the passing away of my grandmother, I have neglected you, dear blog. But I am back! And ready to share with you my lovely session with Joan.

I met Joan in college in San Diego. She was in a class I took where the projects consisted mostly of coloring. What I remember most about that first class with her was that she had the prettiest, shiniest hair I had ever seen.

Joan happened to be in LA for the holidays and before she returned to San Diego (where she is lucky enough to still live! I’m so jealous.), I suggested we do a photo session.

I am SO happy she took me up on it, because these photos came out just lovely. The light kills me! KILLS. ME.

Joan’s awesome tattoo that she got on her recent trip to China. It reads “For art we live”.

Thanks for coming up Joan. You make a lovely model! Next time, bring the boyfriend.

Chloe showed up on my doorstep yesterday ready to rock in a pair of her mom’s heels. Ariela (Chloe’s mom) had brought basically half of Chloe’s closet with her and we had tons of super cute outfits to choose from.

I’ll be honest: boys are tons of fun, but HOLY CRAP girls are more fun to dress! Virtually everything was bright and covered in glitter. Ariela kept joking that when they left my couch would be covered in a layer of glitter (a step up from the layer of cat hair that covers it currently, I assure you).

Chloe is totally supermodel material. She is just gorgeous and so photogenic. Have I ever told you about how much I love redheads?

LOVE. REDHEADS. I have always told anyone who will listen that I am determined to make my children redheads by sheer force of will. On top of that, Chloe’s hair is naturally curly (My hair has been painfully straight my whole life. Tried to perm it when I was a kid and it fell out in about three hours. Yeah. That straight). Is it fair to be jealous of an 8 year old’s hair?

I had a great time working with Chloe. She was so patient with me and up for anything. When I prodded her to change her outfit “just one more time!” for the third time, she happily said sure and bounced off. I wish all my clients were so agreeable!
Happy birthday (on Monday), Chloe!

I think this is quite possibly my favorite picture ever. Last month Jamie and I headed to Downtown LA to do LBW’s first ever quinceanera.

You have no idea how excited I was to get to shoot in downtown LA. When you live in the Los Angeles area your whole life you eventually take it for granted. But the city is so beautiful. If you’ve never been to the Walt Disney Concert Hall, GET DOWN THERE IMMEDIATELY.

The building is just stunning and I know exactly nothing about architecture. There are all these nooks and crannies all around the building. It’s like it Frank Gehry designed this place for photographers. You are my hero, Frank Gehry. Please marry me. But marry me, like, 40 years ago, because you are 80 now and that would be creepy. Of course, I wasn’t born 40 years ago, so it’s possible this relationship will not work out….

*Ahem* Anyway.
It was just my luck that Jessica turned out to be a fantastic model! She’s beautiful and we had so much fun with her and her court. Shooting with a bunch of teenagers, while challenging, is totally fun.

I am really hoping that this was just the first of MANY quinceaneras and just the first of MANY shoots downtown! Seriously, if you call me anytime in the next six months, I’ll probably suggest we shoot downtown.

This is Autumn, Mike and baby Sienna. I cannot even begin to explain how excited I am about their portraits. Autumn is another person I went to junior high with and reconnected with through Facebook.

When Sienna was born six months ago I was dying to get the chance to shoot with them. I finally got the chance this past weekend. Me and Jamie drove to Long Beach to meet up with them.

Now, despite having grown up in Southern California and having lived here more or less all of my life, I am totally unfamiliar with Long Beach. Weird, right? My friend Lori gave me some pointers and we ended up at Shoreline Village.

The bright colors are EXACTLY what I was looking for and they make these holiday portraits really pop. LOVE. IT. It doesn’t hurt that the Roses are basically supermodels.
We had so much fun hanging out with them and Sienna was so patient and sweet given the fact that she is teething and I kept putting my giant camera in her tiny face. Mike and Autumn are probably the two nicest people I have ever met (which is something I always remembered about Autumn from junior high!).

Hope these came out the way you wanted Mike and Autumn! I had the best time taking them.
