Meet Matt and Michelle.

Saturday, January 23rd, 2010

Matt and Michelle got married the day after my birthday. Yes, this means I am sorely belated in this post. Please forgive me!

Matt and Michelle are a wonderfully sweet couple from the Ventura area. The first time I met Michelle she had that frazzled bride attitude, but she was so organized and knew exactly what she wanted! That is EXACTLY what I like in a bride! Working with Matt and Michelle has been basically a dream experience for me. They are so patient and so kind. And I’m sure once you see these pictures you’ll see that they are a perfect and loving couple.

Here are just a few highlights:

The lovely rings.

Ladies, let me just give a piece of advice from a photographer’s perspective. Nothing is going to make your photos pop quite as much as red will. I think it is quite possibly my favorite accent color for weddings.

Useless fact: It took me roughly three months to be able to say “adirondack” without hesitating. Not sure why my brain could not comprehend that word.

Matt and Michelle held their reception at sunset in Somis at this gorgeous country club on a hill. The view coupled with the setting sun was simply spectacular. I love, love, love the golden light at sunset.

Matt and Michelle had a lovely church ceremony in Ventura. Their ceremony was incredibly sweet and you could tell how much they are loved by their friends and family.

I think I'll go to Boston…

Boston

Last week we got back from a vacation to New England. We spent two days in Boston and this was the view from out hotel in the theatre district. Jamie did an awesome job of getting us a hotel in the perfect area for crazy cheap. In fact, Jamie basically planned the entire trip. We’ve taken several trips before this and I had pretty much planned them all, but this one was all him and he did a great job.

I wish the sky looked like this every day.

As soon as I get the pictures uploaded I’ll tell you about the B&B in Vermont with the cemetery in the front yard.

Meet Jaci and Matt.

JM (30 of 56)

It’s funny how often the most rushed and unplanned shots become my favorite from any given session. This picture is from Jaci and Matt’s engagement session. We shot at UCLA the same weekend that the Festival of Books was going on and if you have ever been to that you know how difficult it is to find a quiet empty space! In this picture taken in the lobby of Royce Hall you would never guess that just outside were thousands of people and hundreds of vendor booths. We were cutting through the lobby in between panels and as I held the door open to go outside I noticed the beautiful bright light that filled the lobby. I asked them to quickly pose and hold it (as probably eight or nine people wandered through my shot) and we finally got the timing just right and I snapped this.

Jaci and Matt got married six days after this was shot and you can see many pictures from their wedding on my site. They are a sweet and loving couple and both of them had a great sense of humor. I feel very lucky to have met them and been apart of their very special week.

Meet Lexi.

Lexi (55 of 60)

The day after Lexi’s baptism we snapped some pictures of her on the floor of the vacation house. She is just about the sweetest baby ever and, though you can’t see it in this picture, she has the most adorable red hair. I love redheaded babies! Anyway, getting her to smile is pretty easy… if you smile at her you can pretty much guarantee she will grin right back. So cute!

Alexis Ann's Baptism.

Lexi (43 of 60)

We just got back from a week vacation in New England. Along the way, I was fortunate enough to shoot Alexis Ann’s baptism on Block Island in Rhode Island. This is my favorite shot of the bunch. Alexis is Dana and Rob’s first child and she is just about the prettiest baby I’ve ever seen. Their friends and family took the ferry out to the island for the day to show their support. It was a lovely little service in the same church that Dana and Rob married in.

This was also the first time Jamie and I met baby Alexis, who is Jamie’s niece.

Meet Simone.

Simone

I recently shot some portraits for harpist Simone Salmon. We shot in and around UCLA’s Herb Alpert School of Music. When I look back on it, I guess this was the closest I’ve ever been to a real harp. Simone told us that she started playing when she was very young and the thought of a tiny girl hauling around a giant harp cracked me up. She played a little while I shot, which was lovely. Built in background music! I should shoot musicians more often! Overall, a very cool session.

If you need a harpist for an even, definitely check her out. She is immensely talented. You can view her website here:

Happy Birthday, Allie and Jack!

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

A few weeks ago I shot the joint birthday party of Allie and Jack. It was so much fun and their parents went all out. TWO bounce houses! Two pinatas! Two cakes! The kids had a blast and there was suprisingly little puking when you combined the two cakes and the two bounce houses.

When I mentioned to some friends that I was shooting a kid’s birthday party a few of them were shocked. “Who hires a photographer for a kid’s party?” The more I thought about it, the more I realized that mom Nicole was just abuot the smartest woman ever. It really makes perfect sense! If it is your kid’s birthday party you are going to be SO busy and so stressed just throwing the thing, that odds are you are going to forget to take pictures! And sure, your friends or family probably will snap some pictures, but then you have to harass them about getting prints and making copies, etc., etc. Why not just hire someone to worry about it for you? This is a great idea!

So great in fact, that I’ve built a special package JUST for birthday parties! So, consider it for your child’s next party. It’s one less thing to worry about!

Meet Tash.

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

Tash is 9.5 months old and I had a great time doing this shoot with her. I have been taking her portraits since she was born and I think this is probably my favorite age so far. She was calm and in an amazingly good mood considering is was at least a hundred degrees outside! I handmade the tutu for this session and she was great about wearing what was a huge (and probably itchy) ball of poof.

Tash (28 of 38)

I have big plans for Tash’s one year portraits in September! Can’t wait. Hope her mom is prepared to clean icing out of her ears for a week. ;-)
